Over the past few decades, the United Kingdom, and especially the city of Worcester has witnessed radical changes in terms of its outlook and infrastructure. Many luxury buildings and apartments have surfaced that have closed or blocked or taken away the charm of the waterways, rivers and canals within the city of Worcester. Furthermore, their emergence has impacted the use and attraction of canals and waterways in Worcester, which raises a serious concern for companies that are operating in the water travel industry.

I highlighted the above-mentioned point within the meetings in front of all the stakeholders, and they appeared to agree that the waterways and canals represent a significant cultural heritage for the City of Worcester, and despite the severity of the economic environment, they need to be preserved. Furthermore, I also highlighted that the current plan for new cultural quarter would better serve the interests of the tourism industry and the local economy if the developers and planners were to link the new site with the waterways. This would not only reflect the importance of sustainability and environmental friendliness within the policies of the government, but it would also be the true representation of the cultural heritage of this city, not only to the tourists, but also to the coming generation (Alexander & McKenna, 1998, p. 205).

More importantly, these changes have not been for the better. They have increased the environmental footprint and eroded the possibilities of sustainable living. These changes have had a negative impact on the natural environment, and it is a must for the policymakers to ensure that keep a balance between development and sustainability. One way of doing the same is through promoting the waterways within the city for greater purposes other than mere leisure.

I also shed light on the concerns of our organization on the performance of River and Canal trust. As compared to British Waterways, River and Canal Trust has failed to demonstrate the ability to maintain and manage contacts with the corporate organizations. The private sector would be willing to work along with the River and Canal Trust to gather more corporate bookings, as towards the end of the day; it would represent a win-win situation for all. This is an essential aspect for River and Canal trust, an aspect of their performance that they should improve.

Furthermore, during the meeting, it was also my focus to divert the attention of representatives from the public sector that they are facing pressures from the public to show greater concern towards environmental causes and the green movement; however, the public sector is not the in best shape to give due consideration to these concerns due to budget cuts. A step in this direction would be to support companies like us in an attempt to create and nurture a culture where people begin to use narrowboats not only for the purposes of leisure and entertainment, but they also consider this as an option for travelling.
