The Niagara Falls, located in the north-east of America, between the U.S. and Canada, by the vastness is one of the most famous waterfalls in the world. It is not particularly high waterfalls (only 52 m jump) and their fame is tied to the spectacular scenery, due to their extensive waterfront and the imposing scale, indicated erroneously by some at 200,000 m, as regards the fact the entire River Falls and the waterfall, as part of the beam is intercepted by the power plant. Nevertheless it represent the largest waterfall in North America and probably the best known around the world.
From the geographical point of view can be found within the region called Niagara Peninsula not far from the Canadian city of St. Catharines and are about a half hour drive from the U.S. city of Buffalo and about an hour and a half from Toronto (Winkler, 2003).
The Three Waterfalls
The specification of a complex of three separate waterfalls although originating from the same river, the Niagara. They start from the Canadian side with the horseshoe falls (Horseshoe, the semicircular shape), also sometimes called Canadian Falls, American Falls separated from, the U.S. side, from Goat Island, and always end up in U.S. soil with smaller Bridal Veil Falls. The Niagara Falls is famous for its beauty and for the production of electricity. Great notoriety was given to this place from the movie " Niagara "shot in 1953 by director Henry Hathaway. Formation of the Falls
The historical roots of the Niagara Falls resident in the Wisconsin ice age ended about 10,000 years ago. The Great Lakes of North America and River Falls are the result of the dissolution of this huge mass of ice. The glacier has moved in this area like a giant bulldozer moving earth and rocks, and turning the rivers into lakes, creating barriers with its debris, which in turn created new channels which then became rivers.
After the ice was melted, the Lake Superior formed the present Niagara River. Over time the river created a new channel through the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
