Chapter 1: Introduction

Background of the study

In the current times, it is usually seen that many of the students in the classroom are a joy to work with and many are not. Some students are apathetic, angry, estranged and alienated. Many of them are threatening, abrasive, rude, uncooperative, and some are even violent. Drugs are also abused by some students. Some of the students are sociopaths, sexually promiscuous and few also belong to different gangs. Why are some children such problems to themselves, to their parents, to their teachers, and to the community? Is the cause biological--a result of flawed genes? Is the source psychological--a manifestation of personalities warped by harmful experiences? It could be strongly convicted that the sociopathic tendencies does not comes with birth of a child and problem students are created socially.

Some young people act in antisocial ways because they have lost their dreams, and society is partly responsible for that loss. People must understand the socio-cultural context of social problems to understand problem students and how to help them.

Problem Statement

Sometimes students show disrespect to get the attention they believe they cannot get through any other means, to vent their anger towards authority in general, or to express some other deep-seated emotional problem.
