1. What general questions should the task force address? What questions about the socio-cultural context should it address, and why?
Ans. With regard to the problem the task force should address firstly that students do not drop out of school just because of academic failure, drug and alcohol abuse, or any other single problem. Many of the problems faced by black American and latino students such as drug abuse are symptoms of the poor self concepts about themselves and the unresolved internal conflicts resulting from educators asking students to give up or leave. The underlying causal factor of internal identity conflicts resulting from cultural conflict between Native cultures and the dominant culture needs to be treated at a community as well as an individual level. (Jacqueline et. al. 2003)
Too often well meaning add-on remedial programs focus on finding the reason for failure in students and their homes, "blaming the victims." These programs treat the symptoms of the cultural conflict going on between students and teachers in school rather than the root problem. The underlying causal factor of internal identity conflicts resulting from cultural conflict between Native cultures and the dominant culture needs to be treated at a community as well as an individual level. The reason for dropout can also be the possibility that students who have not met with success in the regular school program have been alienated Head Start, elementary, and secondary schools need the support of tribal education departments and implement effective educational programs that support students of all demographics. To build a strong positive identity.
2.What information does the task force need, and how should it gather the information? What are the implications of this information for the recommendations of the task force?
Ans. Support for proven dropout prevention strategies is required. ...
