Areas of Research related to Tourism, Leisure & Research

The area of focus here would be towards exploring critical areas such as recreation, leisure, parks and tourism as the point of research. We will also be analyzing these critical topics as part of sciences. The paper will also be discussing whether these areas highlighted above are part of the sciences and to which branch of science does it cater to. It's important to critically analyze the literature surrounding the areas of tourism and recreation as part of our analysis. It is also imperative that we will explore the topics, theories and methods related to tourism and recreation which exist in the contemporary setting (Knight, R. L. and D. N. Cole 1991).

Important features related to recreation settings

Recreation could be categorized as a fairly new research field with it marking its birth with the launch of ORRRC studies within the US. It can be greatly defined as an interdisciplinary sort of a field. Recreation studies can be applied as well which greatly enhances its research value. The recreational studies could be conducted for programs such as research and program oriented. Within the field of recreation one can make logical comparison between the rural and urban recreational parks and tourism.

There exist a great scope of research within the parameters of recreational and tourism setting, however it has not been tap to a great extent and lots of areas are yet to be explored. Another salient feature related to recreational and tourism research is that there exist only a few highly competent researchers for this field of study. The fields are limited to a large extent as the subject has very little theories related to its own setting. It has also been observed to a great extent that research related to recreation and tourism relies greatly on descriptive studies as well as surveys (Kasworm, W. F. and T. L. Monley 1990).

Tourisms connection with Science

Tourism lacks greatly when to comes to having its own academic home. It has been observed to be seen as cutting across borders as well as geography, recreation and planning. There exist divisions amongst the international and domestic tourism and amongst the social & marketing environmental as well resource and hospitality based.

Tourism research gets greatly affected from political influence which ruins its credibility. If academic research is to be done, it requires a lot of commercial studies along with consulting to a great extent. A great deal of research gets affected from the evaluations coming from the advertisements as well as the influence of the marketing studies. Since 1985 we have seen tourism and recreational research getting interlinked with one another (Herrero, Jake, and Stephen Herrero 2000).
