Introduction

It is important to be aware of your company's organizational structure because it reveals information regarding who has authority over whom; how and why a company divides the workload by specific people and by groups/teams. Understanding your organizational structure can also reveal important cross-functional relationships to coordinate work efforts for optimum results. It can show where breakdowns can occur in the hierarchy and assist in developing solutions for increased accountability. The purpose of the study is to analyze the organizational structure, culture and management and leadership of the organization. Both of the aspects are important for any organization to prosper. This report will differentiate two different companies that are Google and Yahoo.

About Google

Google is one of the largest yet popular search engines in the world. The usage of this search engine has been all over the world. It is being used in order to gain the information one need. It facilities in finding the information, facts, opinion and many other areas. It came into existence in March 1996 which was initially a project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were the students of Stanford and were working on Stanford Digital Library Project (SDLP) (ehow.com). The goal was to develop a single and an integrated digital library that is to be used universally. It was funded by federal agencies and National Science Foundation.

About Yahoo

Yahoo came in 1994 that was introduced by Ph.D. students of Stanford, David Filo and Jerry Yang. They started with the website named Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web. This was a directory that consisted of other websites. Later the incorporation of them came as Yahoo! Inc. this domain yahoo.com was created in 1995. In 1990s, it grew rapidly all over the world. This later on, diversified into a web portal. It had acquisitions as well that led it to grow further and the stock prices were as high as $118.75 in 2000. In the same year, Yahoo started using the search results from Google. Yahoo is now one of the leading global brands that combine new and innovative technology that also caters to human needs that create meaningful experience that keeps its customer entertained.

In this paper, we will discuss and describe the organizational structure of Google and compare their organizational structure to the organizational structure of other fortune company Yahoo. Later on the culture of both the companies will be discussed.
