Workplace Conflict Resolution
Introduction
Workplace Conflict
A workplace is usually comprised of people belonging to a diverse variety of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds. These people usually possess different personality traits and characteristics, which gives rise to a possibility that a conflict between them might occur. The fact that a workplace has a potential for inducing stress further increases the possibility of the surfacing of such conflicts.
Common Workplace Conflicts and Their Consequences
There are three most common types of workplace conflicts. The first kind includes those clashes that appear because of opposition in different people's opinions, decisions made and other behaviors that are displayed based on their beliefs. Such a type of clash is often called a personality clash as it surfaces when two people, with a different set of personality traits, fail to get along (Psychometrics Canada Ltd., 2009)
The second most common type of conflict appears when people working together begin to rely excessively on their co-worker. This ultimately reduces their productivity and reliance on others co-operation to a greater degree, for getting their tasks done. This becomes a cause of concern for the entire organization, particularly when a greater proportion of employees starts indulging themselves in such activities. In some cases, this could lead to serious consequences as well, such as the organization's reduced revenues.
The third most common type of conflict that is gradually increasing in the organizational environment is the workplace aggression. This includes any physical assault, threat or any coercive behavior that might be prevalent in the work setting. Its presence can lead to serious consequences such as physical or emotional harm. Eventually, this can produce a negative effect on an individual's performance and his outcomes (Commission for Occupational Safety and Health, 2010).
In this report, the type of conflict that will be primarily focused is the workplace aggression. Workplace aggression at the workplace seem to be the most rapidly increasing issue that leads to severely destructive consequences, and do not leave any productive impact. These issues can be as simple as disliking among various employees and perceives threats. However, on the other hand, these concerns can be severe enough to reduce employee retention, on account of workplace violence.
Workplace Aggression
Every day, thousands of workers are faced with aggression in the workplace. Far from being endangered, this phenomenon now has experienced significant growth all over the world. This proliferation has raised some serious concerns. Some of these concerns include the raised arguments about the causes and consequences of this pernicious problem. Along with the discussion of what solutions managers and stakeholders can implement in order to eradicate or at least to contain this issue.
In social science, the term workplace aggression can be defined in terms of any act that involves physical assault, threat ...
