Theorist background and type of theory

Virginia Avenel Henderson, MA, Hon. FRCN (November 30, 1897 - March 19, 1996) was an American healer, scientist, theorist and author. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the fifth of eight youthful offspring of Lucy Abbot Henderson and Daniel B. Henderson. She graduated from the Army School of Nursing, Washington, D.C. in 1921. She graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a M.A. degree in nursing education. Henderson is well renowned for a delineation of nursing: "The exclusive function of the healer is to assist the one-by-one, unwell or well, in the demonstration of those undertakings helping to wellbeing or its recovery (or to peaceful death) that he would present unaided if he had the very needed power, will or knowledge"(Henderson, 1966, 15)

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1897 and is the 5th progeny of a family of 8th youthful offspring but exhausted her formative years in Virginia

Received a Diploma in Nursing from the Army School of Nursing at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C. in 1921. (Henderson, 1966, 15)

Worked at the Henry Street Visiting Nurse Service for 2 years after graduation.

In 1923, she recognised a position training nursing at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital in Virginia, where she dwelled for some years

In 1929, Henderson very resolute that she demanded more studying and went into Teachers College at Columbia University where she procured her;   Bachelor's Degree in 1932, Master's Degree in 1934.

Subsequently, she bound Columbia as a constituent of the school, where she dwelled until 1948(Herrmann, 1998)
