The various UK Garden Festivals have provided a strong focus for the connection between events & inner urban redevelopment. In Melbourne the Southbank retail precinct is located on the site of a former sweet factory & forms a backdrop for many inner-based festivities. (Jansen-Verbeke, 1986, 186-204 )
