Introduction
Among the fastest growing industries of the world, tourism is at the top. In United Kingdom, tourism is considered to be the third largest industry that has been generating £ 248.4 billion in the expenditures from the international and local travellers and tourists (Aubin 2008, p. 12). The tourism market has been becoming highly competitive as a result of growth and significance of tourism in London. To understand the motivations of tourists is one of the most significant ramifications for tourism industry. Prior researchers have focused over surveys and telephone interviews for gathering information about the barriers and trips that they have taken. This study will be based over the visitor intercept survey for finding out the factors that have been influencing the tourists to choose urban tourism destination. The tourists would be selected randomly while their visit to London. (140 words)
The Aim, Objectives and Research Questions
The main aim behind this dissertation is examination of the tourism behaviour and preferences of the tourists who are visiting an urban destination. The main objective of this dissertation was determination of the differences that exist in the preferences of customers and what factors have been shaping up their preferences towards the urban tourism destinations, specifically London.
Following questions will be answered at the end of the research:
What are the most significant factors that are contributing towards the choice of London as an urban tourism destination?
What are the demographic variables (income and gender) explain the differences in trip characteristics?
What are the main types of tourist motivation associated with urban tourism destination, particularly London?
What are the possible strategies for London to retain current tourists and win new s?

Tourism Demand
Tourism demand is becoming more broad and diversified due to the universality of the tourist's perspective; all types of place went too structured as objects of desire for this. The need for differentiation has that originate a large number of items allowed emblematic characterize the site, and thus, achieve its distinctiveness. Demand definitions vary according to the perspective of those who proposed. Economists believe the demand and the number of people wants, and is able to buy at a specified price a product or service. The Psychologists observe the demand from the standpoint of motivation and behaviour. On the other hand, according to Travers (2004), the demand for tourism is “the number total number of people who travel or want to travel, to enjoy the tourism facilities and services in places outside of work and current residence” (p. 33).
There are several possible definitions for demand, some broader and more related to a particular aspect. The most important thing is to clearly identify the segments, i.e. the homogeneous parts of all heterogeneous demand for a destination, since this is critical to plan the development of this destination in terms of sustainability.
