ABSTRACT

Due to the increasing level of globalisation organisations have been able to expand their businesses beyond national boundaries to exploit opportunities in foreign markets. The objective of this research is to identify the strategies followed by MNC's and exporters when pricing standardised products in foreign markets. Specifically it attempts to identify the factors that influence the pricing strategy and their relevance in the increasingly globalised mobile phone industry. The research focuses on the pricing strategies used by American mobile phone companies within the Indian mobile phone market. The study will focus on analysing the past facts and procedures and identifying current trends that challenge these practices to identify possible future practices. It is expected that this study will contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of international marketing.

Research Questions and Hypothesis

The study is conducted to answers the questions;

-What is the impact of grey markets; e-commerce and technological developments have on the pricing decision of American mobile phone manufacturers when conducting sales in the Indian market?

-What are the other ways of overcoming the effect of grey markets and information technology other than changing the pricing strategy?

The following are the Hypothesis created in this study;

-Hypothesis 1 = Grey markets and e-commerce has a significant effect on the level of sales and will prompt changes in the pricing strategy followed by firms when selling mobile phones in international markets.

-Hypothesis 2 = In the increasingly globalised world price standardization is the best option for the mobile phone industry to improve sales and retain consumer confidence.
