Introduction

General strain theory as an explanation of crime and misuse the word theory is defined as a set of ideas formulated to explain something (Hawkins, 1988, pp 167-234). Thus, the strain theory (GST) should be regarded primarily as a set of ideas formulated to explain the occurrence of crime because of the stress in life we must face. But, like all theories, the general strain theory has its weaknesses in explaining crime, although the theory that everything possible to try to explain why it is that crime and misuse in society today. This paper will examine the context of the theory of strain, which makes the strain of the general theory is, it moves to an evaluation of the theory, and ends with the author's point of view of the adequacy of the general theory of the strain. Strain theories are of limited value because, at best, can not explain the crimes of the disadvantaged. I think this is true.

Overview

General strain theory (GST), introduced by the sociologist Robert Agnew in 1992, focuses on the effects of stress, and how is that the strain, while the head of a person to delinquency and crime. Therefore, rather than the first identified strain of the theory that was introduced by Emile Durkheim and Robert Merton, the GST is at the micro instead of macro-level (Seigel, 2003, pp 121-178). Agnew, Brezina, Wright, and Cullen (2002, pp 343-73) suggest that the personality traits of individuals that are in response to stress, then some of these features are found in several of them to crime and crime as a way to relieve tension and stress in their lives. The main characteristics associated with each strain are the characteristics of stress and negative emotions (Agnew et al., 2002, pp 343-73), that when "provoked" by the tension, the person driving, emotions such as anger and crime and crime in order to defuse the anger. Also known as negative statements (Seigel, 2003, pp 121-178), these negative feelings of anger and frustration can be controlled by many people, but these traits with low difficulty and negative emotion to a person, others the difficulty of controlling the effect negative statements and crime is often the result when tension is added to his life.

General strain theory is not a "good deed" itself to explain deviance and crime, in theory, like most people who respond negatively to the strain of doing so in a criminal, but not always in criminal proceedings. If the reaction is criminal, however, is only in the measurement of income-generating crime and rarely leads to crimes such as wounding (Cernkovich, et al., 2000, pp 131-38). Many researchers have found that the main type of strain that is derived from the crime that occurs is the strain of an individual in the economic situation (Cernkovich et al., 2000, pp 131-38) and therefore more crime and delinquency to ease tensions This ...
