The purpose of this research is to investigate about the curriculum in order to design the staff development program for the nurses in medical practices that enhance continuity of patient care.The aim of the research is to critically appraise literature that identifies different styles of nursing handover processes and their implications to continuity of patient care. This study will explore the perception of Omani nurses towards attendance of staff development activities. The findings of this study will bring out different views regarding the perceptions of staff regarding staff development programs. This could as a baseline date for better attendance in the health care institutions. The findings also could form a curriculum for staff development training and continuing education programs for nurses in Oman. Education in hospitals includes programs for patients, their families, and staff members of the community. Education can be divided into two areas: staff development and patient education. Staff development activities are very important and every health care worker should have the interest to join and participate in these activities in order to provide good quality of care and to maintain an ideal standard of nursing practice. The research will focuses on the Management and Teaching Strategies, Professional Behavior in Nursing, Effectiveness of Management Skills, Developments and Skills within Adult Nursing, Role of the Nurse within the Management of Medication, and Factors Affecting the Delivery of Quality Adult Nursing Appreciating Cultural Diversity. The methodology for the research takes into account the knowledge obtained from the review of related academic literature, the nature of the research subject and the aim/objectives which the research wishes to achieve. The rational of the author to choose this area of study is after realizing how inconsistent information during nurse handover leads to delayed discharges, duplicated work, omitted jobs and overall incompetence and puts safety of patients at risk. The code of nursing and midwifery council requires nurses to “work with others to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of those in your care” which include communicating patient treatment information and details to enable smooth transition of care.
