Introduction

In the current business environment every employee and manager has a very volatile and diversified role. These professional individuals must ensure that they are able to assess the relevant needs of their job descriptions and be able to develop the adequate levels of skills. The most important factor of the current business environment is that the role of the employees and the managers is changing at a continuous basis. The university educations of the relevant professionals can only provide them with basic skills set required for the professional life, but it does not provide them with a complete overview of the current factors of the business environment (Hill, 1994, pp. 220). These factors can only be identified and highlighted once these individuals enter the corporate lifestyle and start their roles as the contemporary employees. The phenomenon of globalization has also had a drastic impact on the learning behavior of the current work force and also the roles of the managers in the organizations.

The globalization forces have caused the majority of the organizations to venture in to the various international markets, and also rely on the services of a global talent pool of employees. In this context the competence of the overall work force has increased dramatically, which has caused the overall level of competition to increase proportionally. The role of the employee as a decision maker has also been highlighted in the current business environment, hence the employee must possess the ability to learn quickly and develop versatile skills in his professional portfolio (Arlin & Whitley, 1978, pp. 988).
