Introduction

A poor leader can spoil even the best of business plans, but a good leader can do wonders even with the weakest of the plans. This statement depicts the importance of good business leader. Being an effective and efficient leader is immensely important as a leader determines the success of the business. A leader has to have certain personality traits like being confident, honest, a good decision maker, etc. In this paper, I will evaluate the immense importance of reflective practice and experiential learning in developing self effective and leadership performance. The analysis will help be gain an insight and fully understand my skills and capabilities that were required before joining the Masters in Business Administration programme. Also, I will assess theses traits, skills and capabilities in light of being an effective manager. Apart from this I will also critically assess myself using analytical tools such as questionnaires, Johari Window, etc. This analysis will further help me understand where I stand and how effective a leader I can be; also the analysis will also help me gain perspective as to what skills and capabilities I need to gain and work on in order to become an effective leader.

Importance of being an effective leader

Being a good leader is essential as it determines the success of a business. Importance of being an effective leader is immensely important the reason being that it is the leader is who is responsible for setting the organizational culture, norms, work ethics, etc. and also make those under him follow it religiously. The real challenge for a leader and what makes a person a good leader is that he ensures that people follow all the strategies (Kouzes and Posner, 2007).

A leader is a person who has influence and he communicates that influence through his actions and behaviours. If the leader himself is lazy, ineffective, negative, and unproductive then the people who are under him tend to act the same way, but, on the other hand, if the leader is an effective and a good one, is willing to work until, achieve targets is productive then his subordinates are bound to act in the same way (Ahlquist and Levi, 2011, pp. 1-24).

An organization will develop itself to the level an individual develops himself as a leader, and henceforth the growth and success of an organization entirely depends upon the leader. It is a leader who determines that how quickly an organization will grow, the integrity and effectiveness with which it will grow, and also come up with the correct and the most effective organizational culture, ...
