Abstract

The paper aims to explore the concept of “lifestyle” in a holistic context. It attempts to relate exercise with lifestyle and explains as to in what ways exercise influences an active or inactive lifestyle. The paper then discusses about the sedentary lifestyle in detail and highlights the physical inactivity as a risk factor to health. It also highlights the effects of lack of exercise pointing out the reasons for lack of movement in soicety and the physical inactivity along with its consequences. The paper then explains the benefits of exercise and mentions the benefits of using cardiovascular exercise, strength training and flexibiilty exercises. The paper also discusses about the basic principles of exercise as well as highlighting the basic types and benefits of exercise including the running, walking, swimming and pilates. The paper the provides the positive effects of physical activity and exercise.

Introduction

Since inactivity is prevalent in most of the population, there is consensus that this issue would be greatly improved if the sedentary or inactive population would become increasingly active, spending 200 to 300 kcal. on alternate days, equivalent to walking 6 to 8 miles or run for about 3 to 5 km.Se observed that individuals who have a near caloric expenditure of 2,000 kilo calories per week, have a mortality rate much lower compared to sedentary populations (Bill, 2010).

Thesis Statement

“Regular exercising enables a person to move from a sedentary lifestyle to a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Discussion

Technology has brought great benefit to humanity, but also has generated tremendous harm to the health of men because it has created a sedentary lifestyle, which comes from 'sitting'. Therefore, the appearance of elements that made life easier, are now collaborating to spoilage (Cornelissen, 2010). Due to the fact that this new "lifestyle" characterized by "lack of effort" to tackle any job everyday has become a trend, more and more people are now unknowingly moving from an avtice and healthy lifestyle to sedentary lifestyle (Maskell, 2010).

Sedentary Lifestyle

A sedentary lifestyle is not only the lack of physical activity but the lack of it, because you can make physical activity but may be insufficient for their health, their age. Beyond this lack of activities, implying a physical exhaustion, and lack of interest in sports is recorded even in children, social conditions predispose to a sedentary lifestyle (Bill, 2010).

All work involving an expenditure of energy, most were replaced by mechanical devices: change the cover of a car, washing clothes by hand, knead pasta, and open a gate manually, such actions are almost obsolete and which appeared technological substitutes (Najafi, 2011).
