Benefits of Radio Frequency Identification
Executive summary
Information systems play a key role in all parts of an organization. Providing an excellent quality of service to stake holder, supplier, shareholder, manager or customer is the main goal of every organization. The conventional use of information systems in many industries and organizations is to control and monitor the processes and to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency. Radio Frequency Identification, for its acronym in English, is a system of data storage and retrieval. The main objective of this technology is to transmit the identity of an object using radio waves. Undoubtedly, at present the most widespread technology to identify objects is the barcode. Another major benefit is the ability to eliminate inventory "frozen". In some situations rupture the system is able to confirm whether or not the material. The lack of accuracy cannot identify the exact time of resupply. RFID technology prevents counterfeiting. With a simple copy may be reproduced in a barcode. The use of RFID reduces the time spent en points of sale with warehouse management. The real-time information that enables RFID helps to better track inventory and material handling to minimize the lack of items in stock. The use of an automated capture system with RFID can dramatically reduce human error in the information capture. This reduces the cost of errors in inventory and cost of rework to correct the data. In libraries and documentation centers can locate books and documents requested, etc. this paper includes the benefits from both a general point of view and from an organizational point of view.
Introduction
Radio Frequency Identification or RFID is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people or objects. There are several methods of identification, but the most common is to store a serial number that identifies a person or object, and perhaps other information, on a microchip that is related to an antenna (the chip and the antenna together are called RFID transmitter or RFID tag) (Ballard, 2005, pp.2-5). The antenna enables the chip to transmit the identification information to a reader. The reader converts the radio waves reflected into digital information that can be passed to a computer to make use of it. The tags or labels can be manufactured in all sizes and formats, with a thickness as thin that allows implementation in the area of any product. Has an electronic memory component that stores the data and a transmitter containing a miniature radio antenna (Park, Koh, & Kyungdoo, 2010, pp.682-700).
