Beta-agonists are effective bronchodilators, affecting the muscles of bronchi and bronchioles. Beta-agonists are categorized into short acting and long acting. Short acting beta-agonists are usually given via inhaler using MDI, and works quickly to give relief within minutes (American Thoracic Society, 2013).
