Planning and Training of Hospitality Expatriate Employees Working In Saudi Arabia

Introduction

The kingdom of great Saudi Arabia is known to be an ever developing empire. This ever developing empire is renowned for its enriched employment market all around the world by the employees. Even today, Saudi Arabia entails a health market for the employees seeking job and is one of the most attractive places for the employees around the world. Research and surveys have indicated Saudi Arabia as one of the most probable locations in the “Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)” for the expatriates to get a secure employment (Leap29, n.d., p.4).

Owing to the fact that a large number of expatriates are attracted towards Saudi Arabia for the purpose of their international assignments or obtaining a secured position, Saudi Arabia has turned out to be dependent on these expatriates to a large extent. The labor market of Saudi Arabia is to a great extent reliant on the international employees from different parts of the world (Naithani, 2010, p. 98). This high reliance is evident by the policy of Saudization, commonly described as the job localization policy (Abu Tayeh & Mustafa, 2011., p.80). Among different sectors and industries in Saudi Arabia, Tourism and hospitality is an industry in Saudi Arabia which is known to be comprising of expatriates coming from different parts of the world.

The healthy job market of Saudi Arabia makes it an attractive place for the expatriates in the hospitality industry. Since the workforce and employment market of hospitality industry in Saudi Arabia is highly reliant on these expatriates, the human resource management of these workers is an important aspect. The planning and training of these expatriates remain a critical aspect since it determines the success or failure of these international employees in the market and culture of Saudi Arabia.

Problem Statement

Transfer of workers and employees to different place of the world has turned out to be a central feature. Almost every multinational corporation sends its employees for the purpose of accomplishment of different international assignments. These employees who are referred to as expatriates have to adopt a number of things of the destination where they are sent. As indicated in the discussion above, Saudi Arabia is one of the most attractive and likely destinations for the expatriates. Moreover, the hospitality industry of Saudi Arabia remains specifically attractive in this respect.

Expatriates who are sent to Saudi Arabia for accomplishing one or more of international assignments have to live away from their home country. This entails gaps in many dimensions including cultural gaps and skills and competency gaps. In the process of compressing and eliminating these gaps, human resource management proves to be of significance. The planning and training of these expatriates determine the extent to which various gaps can be filled thus leading towards the success in the work objectives.
