Research Proposal: Gender Discrimination in the Workplace
Abstract
The more evidence we collect about poverty perpetuating discrimination, preventing the development, productivity and competitiveness, and also causing political instability, the harder it is to tolerate its existence within societies. Discrimination can occur at every stage of employment, from selection and recruitment to training and remuneration, and includes occupational segregation and the time of termination of the employment relationship. Men and women have a tendency to work in different sectors of the economy and hold different positions within the same occupational group. There is a tendency for women to be employed in a narrower range of occupations than men and are more likely to work part time or short-term contracts. They must also face more obstacles to the promotion and career development. The conclusion is overwhelming: there are still inequalities in terms of salary, rank and promotion. This research will be based on addressing the issue of gender discrimination at the banking sector of the United States and other nations, assessing the results of the study to provide recommendations. A questionnaire-based survey will be used for data collection and analysis.

Gender Discrimination in the Workplace
Background of Study
Gender discrimination is a pressing issue of the ongoing working environments. Discrimination, as defined by the Convention no. ILO-111 refers to any distinction, exclusion or preference based on race, color, sex, religion, political opinion, national extraction or social origin (among other features) “which has the effect of nullifying or impairing equality of opportunity or treatment in employment and occupation” (Institute of Management and Administration, 2003). Gender is more than an identity possessed by an individual; it is a process that structures social relationships and social behaviors in the aggregate form. The social definition of gender represents the gendered expectations and experiences of men and women in a particular society, at a particular point in time. Discrimination on the basis of gender or sex is the most deteriorating for nay organization, since it has long lasting implications on the entire society and specifically on the organization in which these issues take place (Goktepe, Craig, 1989).

Gender discrimination is a source of many issues within the workplace; where a large number of gender-based bias and prejudices plagues the functionality of the industry. Where women are capable and possess intellectual capabilities to deal with the workplace issues, discrimination against them is a basic dilemma for civilized societies and their corporate scenario. In case of gender discrimination within the professional sector, men and women show resistance towards working in collaboration and often resort to conflicts in their cooperation and solidarity as a ...
