Research Proposal: A Comparison of Novel and Film Based on the Same Novel
Proposal: A Comparison of Novel and Film Based on the Same Novel
Introduction
The process of making a film from a book is known as adaptation. Over the period of many decades, the film makers have been making films based on the famous books including short stories, biographies, novels and plays (Kvenno, 2013); novels have been the first preference for the film makers for adaptation. A number of differences exist between a novel and the film based on the same novel.
Research Objective
To compare and contrast the features and character development in the novel Big Sleep written in 1939, with its film version made in 1946.
Research Method
In my point of view, for this research project, we may need to mainly use the qualitative research methodologies. As we need to find out that what are the major differences between the character development of the novel and its film version. Mainly we would be interested to determine the perspectives of the people who had earlier read the novel, and later they had a chance to watch the same way. The selection of audience is important as only the people who had experiences both the versions would be able to point out the difference between the two.
However for this project, quantitative research too will play a vital role, as we may need to find out the proportion of people with any one perspective. We will need to conduct surveys or online searches, and based upon the numerical results obtained, the suitable conclusion can be reached.
Issues with Data Collection
The process of data collection is vital for research of any field, whether it is social sciences or politics, humanities or business. It is undoubtedly, the most important process for any research activity, since data is the basis of the entire research. Data collections mean to gather and measure information about the interested variables. When data collection process is effectively done, it enables the researcher to answer the research questions accurately.
The importance of accurate and appropriate data remains there, irrespective of the research methodology and purpose. In order to maintain the integrity of the research, accurate data collection is essential. Improper data collection may lead to many negative consequences for the research process. Some of these are as follows:
• Research question may not be answered accurately.
• Study cannot be validated.
• Resources (such as time and money) will be wasted in case of non authentic or inaccurate results.
• Other researchers who would be interested in the future work will be misled due to inappropriate findings.
The main issues related to data collection stage are integrity and validity of collected data. The problems include errors in individual data items, which may be systematic or random, problems with individual staff or site performance, fraud or scientific misconduct. These errors can be reduced, and data integrity can be improved by using strategies of Quality assurance and quality control ...
