Research Methods in Health & Social Care

Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze and evaluate the two researchers under consideration. One of these researches belongs to the qualitative category while the other belongs to the quantitative class. Both of researches are based on a critical topic of the healthcare system, i.e. the pressure ulcers. The paper also aims to evaluate the research methodologies used, the assessment of appropriateness of the research, the strengths and limitations, the ethical considerations and theanalysis of the research findings.

Research is an essential part of the scientific study. There are various methods that are used in conducting a research, and the interpretation of results depends on the appropriateness of these methodologies. As stated by Blaxter, the services provided in the healthcare services should be based on relevant evidence based practices (pp.6, 2011). The field of medicine is based on evidence based practice which is the reflection of incorporation of the proper researches. There are a number of researches that are carried out to give the healthcare professionals, with a hypothesis and its reliability.

The significant part of a research that holds key value is its methodology. The researches are broadly divided into qualitative and quantitative researches. However, both of these categories incorporate their particular methodologies, assessing and evaluating the appropriateness of a respective research purpose. The researches which have been critically analyzed in this paper include; 1) 'pressure ulcers and their treatment and effects on quality of life: hospital inpatient perspectives' by Spilsbury, Nelson, Cullum, Iglesias, Nixon, and Mason, and, 2) 'Are Patient With or At Risk of Pressure Ulcers Allocated Appropriate Prevention Measures?' by Gunningberg.

Discussion

Research 1: Qualitative Study

The Credulity of the Researchers

The first research article chosen is a qualitative study. The authors of this masterpiece are Spilsbury K, Nelson A, Cullum N, Iglesias C, Nixon J, and Mason S. The credibility of the researchers of this study can be ascertained from the fact that the research was published in a renowned journal in the year 2007 (pp. 494-504).

Title of the Research

The prime focus of this research is to identify the effects of the pressure ulcer treatment on the quality of a patient's life, from the perspective of a patient residing in the hospital. Because of this reason, the research has been provided with the title “pressure ulcers and their treatment and effects on quality of life: hospital inpatient perspectives”. The general analysis of this title suggests that it is appropriate as it instantly helps ...
