Executive Summary

The study is made on the quantitative analysis of data published by World Bank regarding education performance of the country. The analysis is done on the basis of provided data on different variables which include literacy rate of male and female populate rate, GDP and age dependency ratio of the country. The aim of conducting this analysis is to investigate the quantitative significance of various economic and social variables on the performance of education system in the country.

The discussion includes history of previous literature related to importance of education for the growth of the country. The empirical analysis comprises of comparison of Indonesia with the countries present in the same region that is China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia, Japan, Guam, French Polynesia, Fiji, Cambodia, Macao, Papua, Papa New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Vietnam, whereas the UK has out of the region. This comparison has provided affluent knowledge to the Indonesian Minister, so he can be able to compare their social, economical, financial and the educational sector it the other countries.

. This analysis reveals that the literacy rate which is a key determinant of education performance measurement of any country is higher in males in case of different countries as compared to Indonesia. The statistical difference is not very high. In case of female's literacy rate some countries literacy ratio has higher than Indonesia. In second part of empirical analysis a comparison is also performed with the country outside the region i.e. UK. The analysis is done on the current statistics of the data due to unavailability of time series data from the time period of 1990 to 2011. The analysis reveals that there is significant difference between the literacy rate of UK and Indonesia in both the cases. In last part an empirical analysis is performed in order to determine the impact of various economic variables on education performance of the country.

The results of the analysis conclude that there is significant impact of public spending on education, age dependency ratio and GDP on the literacy rate of the country. On the basis of statistical results it is recommended e that policy makers should increase public spending in order to boost the education level in the country, furthermore the age dependency ratio also positively affects the literacy rate of the country as when there is increased in number of working people they will spend more on education. GDP of the country also significantly impacts on education rate in a way that when economic growth occurs in the country the government will increase its expenditures to raise the level of education in the country.
