Introduction

The insurance company under consideration seems to be experiencing troubles in retaining the agents they hire and train, which costs the company a large sum of money. This can lead to the company's massive financial loss and wastage of time, which can ultimately result in reduced revenues. To deal with this issue and to further improve their practices, the managing authorities of the company need to design an action research methodology. The purpose of this research should be to analyze the causes and to find appropriate solutions, using which the company can amend and improve its hiring and training practices so that it retains more of the agents hired.

The Process of Data Collection

To begin with, the researchers must first identify the nature of the data that they intend to collect for this particular research. An appropriate approach for this would be the mixed methods research methodology, which is generally considered more powerful. This approach processes data collection in the form of a combination of both quantitative and qualitative data, to ensure maximum understanding (Creswell, 2012).

The best method of obtaining data for this research is through conducting an exit interview and through the administration of an exit survey. It is recommended that the process of data collection starts soon after the employee's turnover, within the employee's work setting to identify the true underlying causes.

In addition to collecting data on an individual level, the unit of analysis for this research should include examining the reasons on the part of the organization as well. This combination approach for the unit of analysis would help essentially in developing a strategic plan to overcome the issue. For this purpose, the respective employee, along with his supervisors and other managing authorities should all be assessed. In addition, the company's staff dealing with the process of hiring and training should be considered in conjunction with the overall work environment.

Quantitative and Qualitative Data

The quantitative data of the research would include; the level of job satisfaction of employees, as measured by a specifically designed questionnaire and the information obtained through the administration of an exit survey. On the other hand, the qualitative data of the study would include the feedback of the employees obtained in the form of a face-to-face exit interview.
