Introduction

Cellular phones have transformed the world of communication by providing prompt and reliable mode of communication that has revolutionized the world. Starting from the huge mobiles that resembled cordless phones, today there exist the sleekest phones with countless functions and apps. With the advent of smart phones, the cellular world has been revolutionized once again. One machine that is sleek, stylish and handy is providing the functions of multiple gadgets; cameras, camcorders, sound recorders, computers, and any possible work that you can imagine to do.

The world of mobiles is constantly under a change due to the latest technology that is being introduced and embedded in every latest model of the cell phones manufacturing companies. Every few days a new model is launched that are better than the older version, making people switch from one cell phone to another, from one manufacturer to another. The mobile market is thronged with mobiles from all kinds of cellular companies, who being rivals are producing new better products that the other and trying to beat the other companies by marketing their products in the best way possible to attract more and more users. Some companies though are making great products are lacking behind in the race due to the fact that their marketing strategy is not effective, where as new names have managed to gather a large clientele due to their effective targeted marketing that resulted in soared product selling in the market.

Nokia and Samsung are two names that are making headlines today with their cell phone products along with Apple. As Apple maintains its own unique style and own operating system, there is a constant race between Nokia and Samsung also use two different operating systems; Microsoft Windows and the android respectively. Though other companies have also made use of the android operating system in their cell phones, the main market share and competition belongs to Nokia and Samsung.

Discussion

Nokia has been the unsung king of mobile phone industry since its inception with its effective products that were one of its kinds. For fourteen years, Nokia enjoyed this status, but within a year, it fell from its position when the smart phones started making their appearance in the market starting with Apple's iPhone in the year 1997.

Since then Nokia has been tumbling down the road not only with its products that were not competent enough to match the latest trends in cell phones, but due to the ineffective marketing strategy as well (Kotler, Keller, Brady, Goodman and Hansen, pp.92). A major blow came when a relatively smaller company with low portfolio started soaring high by creating products that were launched to take down Apple from its status; Samsung.
