Introduction

The importance of the communication is quite high for most of the organizations. Communication is considered the most important tool in achieving productivity in the organizations. Communication is considered the way through which the people are linked with each other and they all cooperate in order to achieve a common goal of the organization. Communication is not limited to few people as it involves a large number of people who have an interaction under a defined environment. The absence of an effective communication among different parties leads to a negative impact on the organization. It is the responsibility of the Senior Management to implement maximum steps in order to ensure an effective communication in the organization. The researcher known as Koontz in 2001 defined organizational communication as the transfer of information from the sender to the receiver with the information not being understood by the receiver. The researcher known as Onuoha in 1991 stated that the role of communication is defined as the process of transmitting meanings, ideas and information from the sender to the receiver.

The researchers known as Hybels and Weaver in 2001 described the importance of communication as the process through the information, feelings and ideas are shared among the person that leads to a positive impact for the entire organization. The communication takes place in two forms. There is one written communication and the second one is oral communication. The body language is also a tool for the communication because it also helps people to express their feelings on a certain issue. The main focus on this study would be on two complex concepts that are interlinked in this topic which are “organization” and “communication”. Both the concepts have a dependence on each other and various aspects of the communication would be addressed in the topic. There are other factors as well which will go through a detailed discussion that are the barriers, technology, communication between managers and employees, pros and cons of communication media and nonverbal communication. Therefore, all the issues and aspects related to the organizational communication will be discussed in detail.

Background on Organizational Communication

There are various ways which helps the people to communicate with the assistance of language, signals, facial expression, music, body movements and gestures etc. The researchers known as Hybels and Weaver in 2001 explained different types of communication that are known as interpersonal, small group communication, public communication, mass communication, cross-cultural communication and ethical communication. These types of communication are written and in oral as well. In all the organizations, the emphasis is given on both the verbal and non-verbal communication, rather than the non-verbal communication. The concept of the Non verbal communication such as the facial expression, body language is also quite vital for any organization. Though, in formal communication, this type of communication is not encouraged to a very large extent (Byrne & LeMay, 2006).
