Group Presentation

The group presentation was a group work of 3-4 people. The group presentation covered the topics discussed in the preceding lectures. The time duration for each topic covered was 10 minutes. The topics discussed in group presentation were total quality management, six sigma, new product development, computer aided design, process design, lean production/management, collaborative forecasting; planning and replenishment and enterprise resource planning. The topic of the group presentation mainly covered the sections comprising supply chain and operations of an organization. All the factors of supply chain and operations management ensure to increase the quality of the product and service to be delivered with efficiency and effectiveness so that the company can earn profits with less in-house expenditures (Gordon, 2001).

The companies require adopting these best practices so that they can deliver their best performance. The performance delivered by the companies is improved and the stakeholders' interests are satisfied in a better way. The implementation of operational and logistics strategies pave way for the success of the organizational strategies. The logistic and operational strategies comprise of logistics and supply-chain management recognition as the strategically important. It also involves integrating the logistic activities into the departments. The supply-chain management is required to be centralized within the organization.

All the sections of operational management and logistics within the supply chain management enable the management to for the maximum number of efforts to produce more quality products and services with the less expenditure, time and effort. This effort is made my management to go through all the operations conducted by the company and refresh all operational activities to bring more efficient and effective product as a result.

Supply Chain Game

The lean supply chain is not for companies who want to streamline their business processes by avoiding the non value added activities. There are various areas in a business where many functions of supply chain may be redundant which are time, cost, and inventory. To create a leaner supply, the company has to examine the every supply chain functional area. The large companies often have complex purchasing operations, this can give the vendors a multiple contracts leading to the price variations, a methodical approach is a one point of the contract so that the vendors can set the price accordingly. These include the internet, inadequate purchasing, and changes in the payment options. Lean supply chain is a simplified approach in the manufacturing area as it shows a significant improvement in the supply chain functions. In this regard, the companies consider the warehouses process to find the areas of eliminating the no useful resources and operations. Ion a holistic context, a lean supply chain requires the managing to examine every process in their supply chain and analyze the areas that use the expendable resources (Heizer, 2011).
