Introduction

Today Marriott Corporation has become a giant name in the hotel industry with 3,000 hotels worldwide. Although they have a rich history of untiring struggle and undying passion, at the moment they have established themselves as a prestigious brand. They have sustained themselves as a role model globally with confirming quality standards. Many years ago, they began with a single motel in Arlington, Virginia in 1957. In the years preceding, it focused on an inclusion of restaurants and added two strings to its portfolio: Big Boy and Roy Rogers Family Restaurants.

Marriott have claimed their classic rapport through induction of different brands to become the world's most acknowledged chains. They were the paramount initiators of innovative airline services to entertain their flights. They also extended their services to some universities and colleges. With their restaurants JW Marriott began to identify brands for service excellence. He remained concerned and worked with his employees side by side. He still looks into every detail reminding his employees that procedures should comply with standard service instruction. Even today all CEOs of their hotels meet regularly. Where the offices of this charge must be small to ensure they do not become the focus of the work (Marriot, 2005).

One of their major competitors is Starwood Hotels and Resorts, both the giants are aggressively striving to defend their superfluity of status. Since high room rates to almost no access has weakened the demand in the travel/ tourism industry. To recuperate from this huge revenue loss, Starwood may decide to cut down on their room rates and also reduce their operating costs. In the past few years there is a drastic shift in world economy which contracted the opportunity of the industry maximize their revenue. The influential world events and economic recession have resulted the boom of the mid-value and mediocre hotels like Holiday Inn and Quality Inn become the part of the existing competition. In reality, the buyers today go for lower rated accommodations rather than enjoy all possible luxuries. Besides the overall universal economic conditions and global political volatility, Marriot has other substantial threats to address.

These threats include alterations and modifications in travel patterns and natural disasters. People are now more conscious about their safety checks than exploring places to their desires. They do their proper homework before selecting to travel regions. For them their safety comes first, since they have to check for the issues if exist with their destined region. Travellers have to arrive at some decision by comparing it against their country's political stance. The flooding in Prague and Jakarta explain and scares us that Marriott have a variety of threats from natural disasters, which is a factor beyond the company's control.
