Introduction

The company I have chosen for my Human Resource Management assignment is Barclays PLC. Barclays is a British multinational bank, and it is headquartered in London, UK. It is a globally known name in the provision of banking and financial services. It has presence almost all around the world like, in Europe, Asia, North & South America and Africa.

The services that Barclays provide are personal banking, investment banking and corporate banking. It is also highly involved in wealth and investment management programs. Barclays has a history of over 300 years and today it operates in more than 50 countries around the world with the total approximate employment of 140,000 people (Barclays.co.uk, 2013). Any company defines its success or failure through its human resource management. Human Resource Management is a very important asset at Barclays. The main functions of HRM are involved with recruitment of people for various job levels in the organization, determining the skills that are important for a certain job, the experience needed to perform well at a job and also forecasting the possible trends for future employment. Similarly, at Barclays, human resource management strategies are clearly outlined for the organization to meet the goals in a timely manner.Job description and recruitment

At Barclays, HR deals with recruiting various diverse people from all around the world for different job levels having different skills and qualifications. They provide proper information and determine scales on which employees are assessed for their job promotions or to determine their wages or to provide bonuses etc.

Workforce maintenance and utilization

The HRM department is solely responsible for the maintenance of the workforce at Barclays. It involves designing organizing framework for the organization to establish strong communication networks within and outside the organization. HRM deals with labour union, handles misconduct among employees, resolves conflicts arising within the organization and majorly contributes in providing a shared sense of mission among the employees at Barclays.
