Introduction

The aim and objective of this assignment is to discuss and analyze the scenario in which a new CEO who strongly believes in the management functions theory and wants me to make a report that can explain and elucidate the four functions of management through using different examples. The organizational examples in this assignment will be used of Microsoft organization.

Discussion

The four most important functions of management are planning, organizing, leading and controlling, performed by managers to achieve certain goals and objectives of an organization. The essence of every successful organization is its strategies that it adopts, developing and implementing efficient management strategies is the backbone of every successful organization.

Planning is based on the rational philosophy and indicates what needs to be accomplished through implementing correct course of action in order to achieve organisational objectives (Freeman, 2009). By using this process Organization will be able to plan for the future, develop strategy, analyse internal and external factors and foresee problems. In addition, planning will also enable managers to identify issues that may affect the organisation and eradicate difficulties in reaching competitive position (Bateman & Snell, 2007).

Organising is also a core stage of the classical organisational theory that develops an organisational structure for a company. Organising mainly involves organizing people and resources to ensure the accomplishment of objectives outlined in the planning (Bateman & Snell, 1999). This suggests that Organizing will enable Organization to allocate resources, define roles, select right people for defined roles, setup training programs, group people into departments, etc.
