Most of the States of United States today are facing a lot of policy issues; however, we will limit our discussion only to Texas which is the second largest state of the United States. Texas is facing many issues ranging from environmental and political problems to economic and health care issues. The State has adopted many prevention programs in order to eliminate or reduce the adverse affects of these issues on the lifestyle of inhabitants of Texas. Texas contributes greatly to the economy of the United States due to its large size and production of chemical and petrochemical goods for the country. One of the important policy issues in Texas is that Supply of raw materials is exploiting natural resources of the state which is creating adverse and unfavorable environmental impacts. Similarly, healthcare issues are another major problem of the Texas. Furthermore, the adolescent pregnancy issues have also become the major concern for the authorities in Texas. The legislation of Texas should consistently struggle for balancing economic need with environmental risk. Similarly, proper policy steps should also be taken to resolve the healthcare issues. Moreover, there is also a need of addressing the problem of adolescent pregnancy issues in Texas. We will now discuss in detail these policy issues faced by Texas and suggest possible and appropriate solutions to these issues.

Health Care Issues in Texas

Several issues cause challenges for health care provision in Texas. These issues include workforce shortages, prevalence and high cost of chronic disease and limited health care coverage access. All of these issues cause expensive and difficult challenges for local government, businesses and their workers. The access to health care is tied closely with state's economic development. Chronic disease management and preventive medicine increase company's productivity by decreasing absenteeism. Another important problem in the health care is the lack of insurance coverage; almost 25 percent of Texans are lacking coverage of health insurance. In the United States, Texas has the highest proportion of health uninsured inhabitants among the whole nation. In the year 2006, almost 5.7 million of Texans were not health insured. Uninsured Texans include low and moderate-income wage earners, children from low-income families and those people who were not receiving health insurance from their job. Although, Texas contains a number of best hospitals that are public, non-profit and for-profit hospitals but health care access is still lacking in the state.

Health insurance and access to health care plays a vital role in maintaining the healthy environment in the state. Thus, access to health care must be improved in order to improve the productivity and performance of the United States and its economy.

It is the primary duty of the government to provide proper healthcare facilities to its citizens.
