Industrial Hygiene

Abstract

Industrial hygiene is referred as the process of evaluating, developing, recognizing and anticipating the controls, in order to overcome and minimize the industrial environmental and occupational hazards. The principles of industrial hygiene (IH) play a vital role in minimizing the work place health issues.

Industrial Hygiene

Introduction

Industrial hygiene is referred as the science and art which is dedicated to the communication, evaluation, recognition, anticipation and control of ecological stressors in or occurring from the workplace. These environmental stressors may result in the form of impairment, illness and injury. It may also affect the well-being or health of the workers and other people of the community. These environmental stressors are categorized in to several kinds including psychosocial, ergonomic, physical, chemical and biological. It is often observed that, occupation of industrial hygiene utilizes rigorous and strict methodology. It is also observed that, it may usually require professional experience (Conlon, 2008). This professional experience may help the organizations and work place management to determine the intensity of hazard. It may also help them in evaluating the risks or exposures in the environment and workplace studies.

Researches, case studies and surveys show that, industrial hygienist may handle the control and assessment of chemical, environmental, biological and physical hazards in the community or work place. Those hazards may cause disease or injury to the people. Physical hazard may incorporate several factors including ergonomics, non-ionizing radiation or ionizing, illumination extremes, temperature extremes and noise. In addition to this, chemical exposures may include dissipated anesthetic gases, ethylene oxide and formaldehyde. All these factors may badly affect the human health and well being. In order to avoid and prevent all these risks and vulnerabilities, the principles of industrial hygiene may play an effective role. These principles may greatly help the organizations and work place manager to prevent unfavorable situation (Harris, 2000).

The proceeding discussion incorporates the main idea of industrial hygiene. The proceeding paper demonstrates that how principles of industrial hygiene helps the organizations to prevent or overcome the vulnerable situations. The history of industrial hygiene is also incorporated in the proceeding paper. The paper also discusses the purpose of implementation of industrial hygiene at work places. The proceeding discussion also demonstrates the impacts of industrial hygiene and its principles at work place.
