Health and Safety System Programs in the Melting Industry

Introduction

Like every industry, melting industry also poses some health hazards. In fact it is one of those industries which inherits many threats to health and safety of employees. Therefore, I selected a topic “Health and Safety System Programs in the Melting Industry” under the laws of Industrial Hygiene. This topic is very much under consideration by Industrial Hygiene, thus relating with the course. I have selected this topic for research because it is one of the most concerning topics regarding the health and safety laws under industrial hygiene. It is very much essential to know about the health and safety standards of in melting industry, as it is one of the most significant and hazardous industries as well.

Occupational health and safety must be at the top of melting industry agenda, as this industry involves variety of hazards due to chemicals, gases, heat exposure, and others. In this research I will be discussing several dangerous aspects of melting industry and the health and safety measures for them under the IH laws. The dangers involves in this industry are associated with melting of lead, aluminum, chromium hexavalent compounds, nitrous oxide, hydrogen chloride, metal casting, effects of noise and heat. The preliminary research indicates that general hazards of melting include impact, penetration, smoke fumes, harmful dust, heat and light radiation (Lab Safety Supply Inc., 2004). It is also founded that in melting industry the temperature of the environment is one of the major factor impacting humans negatively (Singh et al., 2010). Further, it is also indicated that aluminum's melting and casting inherit hazards in handling molten aluminum (www.aluminum.org). Thus, it is clearly evident from preliminary research that melting industry involves hazardous effects; however, it is also found that in order to minimize and eliminate these hazards, certain significant health and safety measures are developed by the Industrial Hygiene laws of United States. This research is focused on the necessity of those programs and their presence.

Methods

The methodology used in this research study is principally comprised of secondary data collection and that will be qualitative data, which will be chiefly based on the relative scholarly material found in books, journal articles, or at World Wide Web. I have used secondary research because it associates different advantages such as it is easy to access many sources of secondary data with rigorous information. Secondary research is more openly accessed due to the availability of online material access and it offers convenience and generally standardized methods used for all sources of secondary data. Furthermore, this method helped me align the focus of my research and I got enhanced information that is required to uncover my research.

Moreover, in my secondary research I have analyzed qualitative data as it is the strategy for going beneath the surface. It provided me a holistic overview regarding my topic, which helped me in having insight and in-depth examination of the ...
