How does the Public View Nursing and Nurses?
Introduction
Nurses function in an environment that is constantly being changed and reformed at both a national and local level. These reforms have modernized all aspects of their roles including the terms and conditions, their competencies within roles linked to the planning of personal and career development, and the requirement to update and change their practice. Effective strategies for managing change are dependent not only on the type of development involved, but also on the context in which it is implemented. Change can be viewed from several perspectives, including changes within an organization that may be the result of restructuring in response to government initiatives, or a change in internal processes such as the implementation of a new sickness and absence policy.
Nursing History and Background
Nursing as a profession has been built up over the centuries and more rapidly in recent decades as medicine, these developments demand a quality education with human, scientific, technical and ethical, to meet all human responses of patient family and community, that have been modified by biotechnology developments, new lifestyles, socio-economic changes, new family structures due to migration, the environment polluted by the same man, minimizing appearance of the traditional cultures, especially in health aspects.
In ancient time, beliefs about the causes of disease were full of superstition and magic and that is why the treatment was often of magic cures but as these companies have evolved, there were some practical ideas on fault of the magic in the diseases were observed (Basic, Conforti, 2005, 104-116). There are many definitions of nursing, but some do not properly reflect the knowledge and skills of the professional nurse (Clark, Clark, 2003, 49-57). The common dictionary definitions refer to the nurse as a person generally .However, at present, there are also men preparing to become nurses and care for healthy people through prevention and education on health. Nearly 100 years ago, Florence Nightingale introduced the concept of nursing that had a significant influence on the healthcare industry.
Public View about Nursing
It can be commonly observed that the healthcare industry is facing nursing shortage due to the minimal scope of the profession. Nonetheless, the concept of evidence based care is blurring due to the inadequate practices adapted by the nursing professionals. Hence, it can be asserted that there needs to be drastic improvement in the nursing profession in order to enhance its scope and demand.
