Cancer and its relevant Government Policies in the United Kingdom

Introduction

Health is undoubtedly the most precious asset any person has in his/her life. The reason behind this is that if a person has good health, they can survive almost any hardship and tough time regardless of their financial situation or monetary backbone. However, if a person is poor on health, any amount of money that he/she might have is simply useless (Finkelstein, Luttmer & Notowidigdo, 2013, p. 221-223). One such health issue found throughout the world is known by the name of Cancer. Cancer is not only a health issue but more of a phenomenon which changes the entire life of a person.

The patient's perceptions and beliefs change and they look at the world in an entirely different manner. In order to better understand about what cancer actually is, what it does to the patients and the policies developed by the Government of the United Kingdom to fight for the prevention of this disease; an in depth discussion regarding the relevant factors is required.

Discussion

Cancer is one of the most critical diseases know to the human beings till now. The main reason behind this is that the disease of Cancer kills a person slowly and gradually while making them realize that they are moving towards their end on a swift pace. However, where some people associate the term cancer with a certain and undeniable death, many people also get treated and cured (Brandman, 2002, p. 92).

Cancer in the United Kingdom

The term cancer does not simply refer to a single ailment but a collection of multiple diseases. The two main properties of Cancer include Swift development of Cancer cells within a human body; and the rapid migration of Cancer cells from the point of origin to distant sites within the body (DeWitt, 2002, p. 631).

Moreover, if the spreading of these cells is not immediately stopped, the situation could also lead to the death of the patient. When it comes to the information relevant to the presence of Cancer within UK, in 2010, Cancer was diagnosed within 325,000 people which counts up to about 890 people daily. However, from the last five years, half of the people diagnosed with the disease are treated to be successfully healthy due to the advancement of medical sciences and technology (Cancer Research UK, 2013, p. 1).

Associated Patient Lifestyles

As mentioned above, when a patient is diagnosed with Cancer, their lifestyle changes completely as their perceptual ideologies and missions of life start changing. The major changes within the lifestyles of the patient take place in the following domains of their lives:

Their professional lives are affected taking down their financial stability

Their personal lives are majorly affected as they get isolated from peer groups and family

Their confidence levels and trust on their selves suffers a major blow as the patient starts to feel like he/she is lagging behind from others (Hess, 2005, pp. ...
