The main purpose of this paper is analyzing the concept of global leadership. The paper is an analysis of the definition of global leadership and its comparison with traditional leadership. The paper is also about the examples of global leaders and the role of global leaders in today's global environment.
Definition of Global Leadership
Different researchers are working on the concept of global leadership and trying to find an accurate definition of global leadership. However, they could not find the rigorous and collectively accepted definition. The main problem between this confusion is the confusion between global and domestic dimensions and leadership and management dimensions. Though, there are some definitions of global leadership presented below:
“Global leadership is the process through which the leaders perform the functions of influencing the individuals and groups of individuals on global basis”.
Here is another definition of global leadership:
“Global leadership is an extraordinary capacity of a global leader through which he unifies a global workforce in order to achieve a single objective which is the common objective of the organization by demonstrating personal mastery”.
Difference between Global and Traditional Leadership
There is a huge difference between global and traditional leadership. Global leadership is the process of influencing the global workforce and motivating them to achieve a common goal. On the other hand, the functions of traditional leadership are only limited to nationwide operations. A global leader is assigned to perform global operations; whereas, the traditional leader has the responsibility to take care of regional operations (Mendenhall, 2008, p. 12).
