Abstract

In this research paper, we try to focus on the company Wal-mart. The paper discussed about the Wal-Mart the policies related to employee separation, discipline, and retention of this organization. The paper is divided in to three main parts that are introduction, discussion and finally conclusion. In this paper, we highlight the wal mart's formal discipline policies (include information related to harassment, absenteeism, unsafe work practices, poor quality of work, drug or alcohol use, theft, and cyber policies). The paper includes information regarding who is involved in implementing and enforcing these policies. The paper also describes informal discipline trends that are present in the Wal Mart. The paper also outlined the policies that cover in contract. The paper highlights the alternative dispute resolution activities. The paper describes outplacement counseling and employee assistance programs that are available. We identify policies that might be missing. The paper also, includes discussion as to why these missing policies are needed to protect the organization from litigation

Introduction

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., functions as the chain of discount departmental, largest grocery retailer store and warehouse. The company plan was initiated by Sam Walton in 1962. In 1972, it was incorporated in the New York Stock Exchange list and was branded as Wal-mart in 2008. According to the Forbes Global 2000 list, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is considered as 18th largest public corporation and one of the largest public corporations as per the revenue generation, of United States of America. It is also considered as one of the largest employer around the world with almost 2million people working under the banner of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., run around 8500 stores (approximately) in 15 different countries around the world, with different retail names (Zellner, 2001).

Methodology

This research is going to utilize the qualitative method of research. The data in the study has been collected through both a primary and secondary methodology and both have been used to perform the investigation. The secondary analysis has also been done through researching, studying and reproducing the literature from various articles, journals, cases and available literature.

Discussion

Wal-Mart Formal Discipline Policies

Poor quality of work

The working conditions are made inhuman by Wal-Mart, as quoted by one their employees. In 2006, a case occurred, where more than 200 workers protested against the policies of stores. The concern was about the new attendance policy, pay caps and cutting full-time hours. This forced working to be available at the time, as per marked by the system. The grievance was accounted with professionals without retaliation fear.

Treating Employees

Wal-Mart becomes more technologically advanced that they do require less skilled workers. Wal-Mart is not the care takers of their employees. I think this statement is a huge representation of the company's believes that their employees are nothing more than workers and are not significant enough to matter. All companies should be considerate of their employees to build trust and moral. Your employees are only going to be as loyal as how you treat them.
