Introduction

Self-managed learning

In today's complex global system there is a huge transformation of the world in context of self-directed learning and lifelong development goals. The main influencers of these educational needs are the teachers who encourage self-directed learning in students so that they become one of the best and become a role model for them. it is the responsibility of the teachers know what they need to learn in order to encourage students towards self- directed learning. The resources required, the right skills and qualities needed in students. Teachers need to avoid situations where there are not healthy learning outcomes coming and provide appropriate resources to motivate and create healthy atmosphere.

Self-managed learning defines ways people or individuals use to learn things in a society. In today's world the environment we live in is much diversified and self -managed learning grows an individual mentally. Self-managed learning is achieved through setting goals and objectives and setting up of ways to learn them. There are so many things that could be learnt in a society, for instance, culture of people, behavior, their perceptions and how they think. People can learn these simple things by simply observing, socializing or through mediums like newspapers (Bembenutty, 2011). This way individual learn different things and self-managed learning gives an opportunity to find a suitable way of learning for them. Mostly, students take a short term approach to learning before the exam, to pass attest or complete a project. However, in today's competitive environment it is important to gain knowledge due to advancement in many sectors (Perkins, 2009). This knowledge can help them throughout their life by developing them personally and professionally. The main components of self-management learning include goals, engaging in learning process and evaluate learning procedures. An individual must possess specific skills of learning which are made through family situations, studying habits and support network. It is important for an individual to realize that as learners they need to know their capabilities and the way it will help them develop proficiently.

Approaches to self-managed learning

There are many ways to incorporate self-managed learning in an individual. They can be deep approach, surface approach and a strategic approach to learning (Bembenutty, 2011). The deep approach is about understanding ideas for yourself, be able to apply concepts learnt and to explain through examples which means a successful completion of a task. This is a complete transformation process which is most ideal in self-directed learning(Perkins, 2009).The surface approach involves reproducing or fulfilling the requirements of a unit. This is mainly to learn only what is requires through a good understanding and provide plausible explanations. Lastly, strategic approach involves simply organizing work to achieve highest possible grades. Such learning is mainly done to pass examinations, memorizing what is told in class and practicing from past papers. There are various methods from where appropriate information is available.
