Thesis Statement

Religious freedom is one of the fundamental principles of the United States; because of this, America has become the birthplace of many faiths and religions. These are Adventism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness, Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Spiritualism, Scientology, Christian Science, Nation of Islam, and Polish National Catholic Church.

Introduction

America is considered to be a country which believes in freedom, its people are tolerant and the basis on which America was found was that every individual had the right to be free in voicing their opinion. America is known to be a free land. Tolerance is derived from a Latin word “tolerate” which means to bear. In the American dictionary we define it as the “freedom from bigotry and prejudice.” (Cohen, 1985)

This paper discuss about the freedom of religion in United States. It explains that there are several people from different religion have the freedom to live in the United States without any restrictions. America is supposed to be a free nation which means that every person of every race or religion has the right to live freely. People of the United States need to be tolerant and respect other races even if the hate them, this is derived from the statement mentioned above.

This issue has always been with us, from the time of Puritan rigidity and the infamous Salem witch trials the founding father of America has made sure that the concept and the fabric of tolerance was woven in the young American republic. America has known for the birthplace of many people who belongs from the different religions.

There are many arguments made against building a mosque near ground zero but most of them are based on emotions and not on real facts of figures which makes it senseless.

On the other hand the arguments for letting the project go on are far more convincing and compelling.

The fundamental principle of freedom of right is crucial to all the diverse societies in the global world. People belonging to various different religions live together, so there is a possibility that many conflict may arise between them. Differences are observed where majorities dominate the society, the principle of religious freedom plays a very important role as it allows people, who have different perspectives, to live together peacefully. In short, the religious freedom helps to reduce violence and mediate conflict in the society.

The American Revolution and Religious Freedom

The theme of religion is essential to understanding American society, which places a strong emphasis on spirituality. For example it is common to find a Bible in hotel rooms, usually the King James Bible, and the Bush frequently invokes God in his speeches. Religion is so present in the public space we speak of “civil religion”.
