Problem Solving - A Scenario Based Essay

Abstract

Business communication is one of the most growing fields these days. This is one of the most significant facets of human life. Research reveals that an average human utters about 5000 words on a daily basis. The event that has been selected for this paper is the one that occurred in me own organization. Since, it happened with one of my colleges and I was an eye witness to it. The paper presents a scenario whereby communication was used as a major medium of problem identification and problem resolution. The selected even relates to a gap in communication between two people that led to job stress, demotivation and termination. The scenario that is expressed in this paper is a very common one. This is often rooted in the fact that employees do not have the opportunity to vent out, have a belief that their opinion and values do not matter or are apprehensive that they may end up saying something that will be offensive for the upper management.

Introduction

Business communication is one of the most growing fields these days. This is one of the most significant facets of human life. Research reveals that an average human utters about 5000 words on a daily basis. However, the average differs between men and women. In business environment, the importance of communication increases multifold in that it may be used to lead a certain project, find out answers to problems and implement those solutions to facilitate the company in achieving its vision and mission (Smeltzer, 2007, p. 47). The paper presents a scenario whereby communication was used as a major medium of problem identification and problem resolution.

Discussion

Event

The event that has been selected for this paper is the one that occurred in my own organization. Since, it happened with one of my colleagues and I was an eye witness to it, I would like to relate it hereunder. Humans are the strangest creation of God in that they have many shades to their personality and are constantly fighting with themselves. My colleague is a very honest and dedicated user. He is respected by all the staff and is an asset of our team (Malhotra, 2012, p. 1). We work in a research firm. The nature of research projects that are assigned to us mostly call for individual work. This means that we do not work in teams. This is so because we are pressed for time and have time constraints.

My colleague and I are marked under the same team and we have the same reporting authority. One thing which is truly discouraged in our organization is leaves. People are expected to be punctual and regular. We noticed that this particular team member had been taking too many leaves. This one time he took uninformed leaves for consecutive three days (Pounds, 2009, p. 71). Meanwhile, he had a research project to deliver.
