I would have supported Jill on this issue, as he is a dedicated and a hard working employee of our company. His performances in the past have been exemplary for others. Moreover, being a lesbian or a gay is a personal thing for any person, and interfering into this matter or making taunts on the person due to this is against the human rights of that person. Moreover, this is also against the ethics of the workplace (Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter, Braun, 2006).
What are your organizational policies and procedures concerning anti gay sentiment or abuse?
The policies of the organization are the same for each and every individual working in the organization. This is also the same for gay and lesbians, as well. The policies of the organization suggest the employees to respect the sentiments, beliefs and values of each and every individual working in the organization, irrespective of their caste, religion, sex, sexual status, etc (Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter, Braun, 2006).
How would you address Jill's coworkers' behaviors?
I would respond to Jill's coworker's behavior by responding to him in an uncompromising manner. He will be served with a notice, and asking him to give a response to the notice. Furthermore, a disciplinary hearing will be held within the organization against that coworker, and will be suspended for a period that the members of the disciplinary committee will decide. This will be done in order to make sure that there is no such conduct in the future (Winterman, 2008).
Discuss these behaviors in the context of an anti gay hate crime, supporting your views with research.
The behavior of Jill's coworker clearly shows that he is an anti gay hate crime follower. This is said because his attitude of disturbing Jill was quite similar to the attitudes and behaviors of anti gay hate crime members. There have been certain incidences in the past, where members of the anti gay hate crime have disturbed people who gay and started movements against gays. The office incidence with Jill was quite similar (Winterman, 2008).
