Is Heavy Alcoholism Responsible for Brain Damage?

Is Heavy Alcoholism Responsible for Brain Damage?

1.1 Aims and Objectives

The aim and objective of this study is to aware people about the effects of heavy alcoholism on the brain and behaviour. This study will also observe those factors which are linked to alcoholism related brain damage. Another objective of this study is to differentiate between brain damage due to heavy alcoholism and damage due to light alcoholism. Rationale for selection

Reason behind the selection of study is to reduce the cases of brain damage due to alcoholism by increasing awareness in the people. Rate of alcoholism is also increasing day by day, so it is very important to aware the people about the cerebral risks of alcoholism. Literature Review

Alcoholism is responsible for brain and performance damage in many ways, and many factors can manipulate these effects. Person's age, drinking history, gender and nutrition are associated with susceptibility of brain damage. There are various methods to study alcoholism related brain damage by examination of the brain which is known as neuroimaging (Berman & Marinkovic, 2003, pp, 125-33). Hypothesis

Heavy alcoholism is responsible for brain damage than light alcoholism. Research Questions

Following question will be answered through observation of medical check up of participants. Medical check-up will consist of physical examination, psychiatric examination and neuroimaging. Q: 1) Any changes recorded in brain structure or behaviour after 2 months of observation? Q: 2) Any changes recorded in brain structure or behaviour after 4 months of observation? Q: 3) Any changes recorded in brain structure or behaviour after 6 months of observation?

Q: 4) Any changes recorded in brain structure or behaviour after 8 months of observation? Methodology

This study observed 50 chronic and heavy drinkers whereas 50 light drinkers were observed. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to observe brain structures. Possible Outcomes

Heavy drinking will damage the brain and its performance so slightly. It will also reduce the cognitive functioning gradually. 1.2

There are various factors which are involved in the selection of this study. Firstly, rate of drinkers are increasing day by day. People used to drink many times in a day which is becoming a poison for them. Another factor which helped for the selection of this study is increased cases of the brain and behavioural impairment. Cases of brain disorders are also elevating in the current generation, so it is important to know about the causes. Study's broad range is also a supporting factor. People especially young adults query about disadvantages of alcoholism, so this factor also supports this study (Berman & Marinkovic, 2003, pp, 125-33).

Scope of this study is high especially in the western world. Figure of drinkers are quite high in the western world than in the eastern side. Drinking is becoming a habit in peoples, and every age group is used to drink at different amounts. Males and females both used to drink alcohol so gender wise as well this study has a great ...
