Problem Statement

Motivation is a major concern in the organizational perspective to retain the employees. A lack of motivation among employees encourages lack of efficiency and results in negative productivity. There are various de-motivation factors like poor leadership or management, working environment, organizational culture, peer relationship and behaviors, and weak compensation and appraisal system (Ramlall, 2004).

Significance of the Problem Statement

The above problem statement shows that the motivation level in employees plays an important role in bringing productivity and efficiency in their performance level that is requirement of every organization. It helps in enhancing the organizational activities and processes. A management which lacks in supporting and assisting the needs and wants of its employees is never a successful management. It is one of the most crucial factors to strengthen the employee sustainability. Employees are the asset of any organization and the organization highly depends on this asset. An organization not working on the motivational factors would find it difficult to accomplish the organizational objectives. Motivation is an element that employees expect in return from the organizations they are associated with to boost up with their performance. The problem statement mentioned above highlights some of the major factors that are resulting in lack of employee motivation, like poor leadership or management, working environment, organizational culture, peer relationships and behaviors, and weak compensation and appraisal system (Yurtseven & Halici, 2012).

The problem statement stated is comprised of various factors that are required and supports in conducting a detailed research work.

Research Question: The research topic that can be extracted from the problem statement to give it a formal structure is 'What is the relationship between employee performance and motivational factors?'

Literature Review

The problem statement can be studied from a variety of past research works and can be further explored with the help of a research instruments like interviews, surveys, observations and many others. There are a variety of qualitative and quantitative approaches to support a particular subject of research. The research work conducted earlier in this domain has highlighted some of the factors leading to lack of employee motivation and dissatisfaction. Poor leadership or management, working environment, organizational culture, peer relationships and behaviors, and weak compensation and appraisal system are among the key factors of employee de-motivation.

Leadership is one of the most crucial factors in the context of employee motivation. An effective leader or manager brings up the level of motivation, and to this day one can find a variety of leadership examples that have resulted in the organizational success. Leadership delivers a structure for the employees to follow and stay strategically aligned with the organizational objectives. Leaders of an organization are the key role players to encourage employee performance and appraisal. The characteristics leaders reflect can act as a guideline for the employees to cope up with the motivational factors and create an organizational association (Tomic & Tomic, 2011).
