This chapter presents the critical analysis and discussion of the main reasons for the failures of the projects. It undertakes to perform a qualitative and quantitative analysis in the dissertation. For this purpose, a group of managers form the industry is interviewed through a semi structured questionnaire and the data obtained from them is utilized for the purpose of forming a solid ground for discussion. This further takes the research towards establishing a good conclusion for the entire research that has been conducted.
The interview process involved meeting with the project managers and project leads in face-to-face sessions utilizing a semi structured questionnaire. Depending on the responses from the participants, related questions were asked to gather responses to the questions or to move on to the next question. While some project managers and leads provided more information, some needed to be asked for additional information. The researcher took field notes, where appropriate, although most of the information was gathered by asking questions.
Part A: Demographics
This section in the questionnaire elaborates upon the demographical characteristics of the population chosen for the purpose of interviews. These features of the sample background are represented below in the form of pie charts:
The chart above shows that the sample contains an equal number of male and female managers who are interveiwed for the puurpose of data collection.
The chart above indicates the approximate monthly income of the population contained in the sample size. According to the data shown, the 30% of the managers chosen to be interviewed are the highest income earners lying in the range of £5,000 -1,000. This also suggests that the sample contains many experienced and expert managers as well.
The sample contains the respondents of various age groups. The chart above shows that the major proportion of respondents is the experienced managers.
Part B: Managing Projects
This section of the chapter deals with the questions regarding the management of projects. It interviews the respondents regarding the causes of success and failures of the project and the data obtained from this information answers the research questions presented in the beginning of the study. The data collected from the respondents is illustrated with the help of pie charts below:
For how long have you been working as a project manager?
The chart given above indicates that the managers chosen in the sample are well ezxperienced and expert in their field. It is important to note that 35% of the people in the sample possess 5 years of experience in the field of project management. This suggessts that they must be well-versed and well-experienced in their areas of work.
Have most of your projects been a success?
