The mechanism of asthma is accompanied by the genetic and environmental factor that contributes to its chronicity and severity. There have been many recent studies that have contributed to the make a clear understanding of genetic determinants. So this can be understood as one of the most recent methods and the area of development in the human genetics since past few years. An overview has been presented by the Blumenthal (2005), there are now twenty chromosomal regions that are linked to the genetics of asthma.

It is certain about the genes and asthma that there is no single asthma gene. There are number of genes which interact and then cause the receptiveness of asthma. It is possible that a person may have any of those genes to prompt her/him to the asthma without having any symptoms of it. The genetic research for asthma is very complicated because of several interactions among genetic predisposition, and environment. Despite of these complications researchers claim to find out several genes that are considered to be the cause of asthma. Though there are hundreds of such genes but here only the most discussed will be presented.
There are many types of genes for the asthma but a few common are known to man with the help of the medicine sciences. A few are: A Disinterring and Metalloprotease33 (ADAM 33), Interleukin-13, Interleukin-17F, Cysteinyl leukotrienes, Clara cell secretory protein (CC16), Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), Mast cell chymase (CMA1). All these are formed and are interpreted with the different methods and processes depending upon the type of disease and methods that could effectively identify it.
Most of the studies that are used to identify the asthma are based on the linkage studies. This involves the methods to identify the ADAM33, VDR, DPP10, PHF11, HLA-G, and GPR154. These genes are expected to be the part of atopy, elevated IgE levels, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and other characters that are related to the asthma.
