Introduction & Importance of Research

The research “An Exploration of Counselor Experiences of Adolescents with Sexual Behavior problem” is conducted by Linda Chassman, Jeffrey Kottler, and Jeanne Madison. The topic of the research is taboo and usually not discussed in studies. It is an emerging issues faced by psychologists when they counsel adolescents with sexual behavior problems. There are turning points, which came across while counseling. These counselors have to be attentive and ethical towards their work. Most of the problems occur during counseling sexual offenders. The research article is entirely based on qualitative factors. The importance of research reflects when 87% of counselors' respondents who counsel adolescents acknowledged experiencing sexual attraction to at least one adolescent (Davidson, 2006).

A unique situation is created when counselors deal with sexual behavioral, problem. The counselor who are sexually abused before and the counselor that are no sexually abused both have given different opinion about their experiences dealing with client. These interactions of counselors and sexual behavior problem clients create feelings, sexual arousal, and sexual visual images for counselor (Davidson, 2006). This research is purely based on Qualitative method of interviewing. It produces deeply understanding and experiences of counselors.

The importance of research is the participants that are involved in this research. These participants share their experiences of counseling different adolescents with sexual behavior problem. There were 18 counselors from United Sates and Australia. There combine experience was 188 years. Each counselor had worked between 2 to 21 years with adolescents with sexual behavior problem. The participants were different in age, gender, culture, experience source of referral and type of treatment setting. 42 hours of interviewing with 18 counselors generate results. For the valuable results, semi-structured interviews were conducted. The major question of the research was about the counselor's experience with adolescents with sexual behavior problem (Davidson, 2006). The analysis was collection, coding, and analysis.

The important results were generated in four themes:

Theme 1: the Counselor's History of Abuse

The significant results were generated that half of the counselors were abused in their lives. Two counselors were abused in childhood. These counselors can understand the aspects of client clearly.
