Executive Summary

This report summarizes the findings of a survey conducted to explore the need of resource centre for international students at Oxford Brooks University. To extract data secondary and primary sources are employed. Questionnaires were distributed among 200 international students out of which 180 came back for analysis. Findings show that there is a significant need for campus redevelopment by instituting a language resource centre for international students, so that they can improve their communication ability.

An Investigation into the Need for a Resource Centre for International Students at Oxford Brookes University

Introduction

This report is a summary of a survey which was conducted to investigate whether there is a need for a resource centre for international students at Oxford Brooks University. University management has to take decision on campus redevelopment and wants to know whether international students feel the need of resource centre. The survey will be conducted by international student representative.



Methodology

To collect information both primary and secondary data sources are utilized. Questionnaire was distributed among international students and some of them were interviewed on random basis. Secondary sources were used to examine the significance of resource centre for international students. Out of 200 questionnaires only 180 were returned back and quite a few comments made by survey participants were checked and surveyed in the interviews carried out later.

Findings

The study findings showed that the respondents are classified into three broad groups. First group strongly in favor of resource centre and ask for immediate campus redevelopment. Second group of international students were of the opinion that there is a need of resource centre but it is not compulsory or on immediate basis. The last but not the least, the third group of participants rejected the need of resource centre for international students. Out of 200 international students who have participated in the survey 110 were strongly supported the need of resource centre for international students; while 46 were moderately supported the resource centre need; only 24 international students would not recognize the need of resource centre for international students; and 20 questionnaires were not answered or partially answered.
