Reflective Practice and Its Impact

Introduction

The study is related to reflecting practice which involves skills of combining experience, knowledge, theory and feeling together in a creative way to help us to deal with the uncertainties and challenges of life (Moon, 1999). Reflection is a valuable concept, but they are often abused. It plays an important role in transforming, understanding and integrating new experiences with existing/ previous knowledge. Most often occurs as a reflection of the bulk of learning from experience. However, it is often seen as a very passive and overly "observation" activity. Reflection - this is what works best when the student is included in the process and active. Teachers, try to create situations for their students in which they have to think (Ferraro, 2000). Today's society requires new skills for teaching, because in a globalized system in which information circulates quickly, and education plays a vital role in society, it also requires a high level of competence in teachers, requiring practices in the teaching-learning process that value critical thinking, the ability to challenge, creativity and a form of interdisciplinary educational work.

Discussion

The process of reflection enables a practitioner to assess, understand and gain knowledge through experience leading to potential improvement and change. This is a positive process that lets us review, analyse and evaluate in order to develop as a learner and a teacher. The ability to reflect upon practice helps to assess needs and plan to meet those needs, therefore, developing teaching and learning skills. To assist the learning process reflection can be a powerful tool to help identify strengths and weaknesses as an individual. To develop new skills as a learner, I must reflect upon experience to access my own performances and plan for my future needs. It is important to indicate my learning style in order for me to achieve my highest potential not only as a learner but also as a teacher (Argyris and Schon, 1974, 7-14). To identify my learning style will outline my strengths and weaknesses. As, I am relatively new to teaching it is also important to reflect as a teacher in order for me to be effective and competent within my job role. It is necessary for me to reflect on my experiences so far and continually highlight areas for development. As a reflective practitioner, I will be able to more effectively guide actions in critical thinking situations, improve professional or learning situations, connect subject matter to pedagogy and really meet the needs of every child. I establish that there are advantages of being a reflective practitioner. With this activity, I can identify my strengths, enhance them and thus affect children learning in an effective way.

Reflection has become a fundamental part of my childcare practice as I work with children and families who are individuals with unique qualities. I have to consider the individual needs of every child and that of their parents. It is essential for me that I should develop a clear understanding of ...
