This work was done by analyzing the report of the first cycle assessment subcommittee issued execution and control of the process of learning of University Extension. The objective was to determine the causes that induce the difficulty of developing scientific research in tourism in the University faculty. For the study applied the following methods: empirical and analytical method, method of scientific observation, and interviews. The application of these methods allowed important conclusions: fuzzy guidance regarding the true meaning of what constitutes scientific research; teachers have at least two jobs, and consequently little time to devote to research.

By virtue of this study was to assess the level of research that has the University of Santa Elena Peninsula through their teachers, the percentage of faculty researchers, the number of scientific articles published their teachers. The extent and significance of contribution is determined to science through research. From this observation and assessment process, identified the main causes contributing to poor performance in the educational research of the university staff. Hence it is raised a viable alternative, to improve this situation and promote activities and research in teacher quality. (Ulrich, 1996)
