The conundrum of IT Management

According to Peppard (2007, p. 336), information technology could provide information directly to the directors from the business units, eliminating the middle-level managers and office workers who support them. It could give managers the opportunity to contact directly to the operating units of low-level through a network of telecommunications and computers, and thus eliminate the middleman mid-level managers. Peppard (2007, p. 336) argued that Information Technology could also directly distribute information to low-level workers, who could then make their own decisions based on their own knowledge and information without intervention of any manager.

As described in 'The conundrum of IT Management', internet has become a widely used communication means. It is a common tool for communication between patients and doctors. Peppard (2007, p. 336) explained technology's rapid pace has left dealing with ethical, legal and clinical consequences behind. Legal issues relate to the federal privacy regulations. Ethical issues refer to autonomy and justice. Electronic mail has replaced telephone and standard post mail. Many physicians and patients avail the internet facility because it offers convenience in communication (Peppard 2007, p. 336). Because of advancement in technology all diagnostic images can be acquired as digital signals. Use of internet between patients and physicians has some benefits but offers a few threats too.

Information technology and telecommunications enable access to a vast amount of information, situations and worlds that only by this means are available to student and teacher. As mentioned in Peppard (2007, p. 336), access to information networks is certainly advantageous to enrich from the information point of view that can serve as an environment for learning. These computer and telecommunication technologies also allow interactivity with information through various media languages and other forms of presentation of information.

According to the Edawrd (2003, 64), technology has totally changed the face of the Earth. The world has become a knowledge economy where effective dissemination of knowledge had become imperative for the present and future generations. This effectiveness can only be established if we deploy technology in our learning systems. New information technologies in such a way unlike previous ones, characterized by new communications capabilities (integrated treatment simultaneously with manipulation of objects of a different nature), new data carriers (magnetic and optical disks), new approaches to the exchange of information (computer publishing).
